Foodbank

Our foodbank is a multi-purpose place. More and more people are calling on The Salvation Army for help because of rising food, electricity and petrol prices. Many of our clients are facing tremendous hardship and struggle even to put food on the table. And it’s often the children who suffer the most when household budgets don’t stretch far enough. As we get to know clients we find out there are other issues in their lives to resolve. Hence we offer services such as budget advice, counselling, prayer, mentoring and lifeskills programmes. We are then able to offer them assistance in any of these areas if they are interested.

So food assistance is just one of the packages of care that we offer. We carry out a needs-based assessment with every person who comes in for welfare assistance to identify any other areas where we can also help. As we get to know clients we find out there are other issues in their lives to resolve and we can refer on to services such as budget advice and counselling. More importantly, we have a God given opportunity to also feed their souls with hope and purpose through the gospel, showing them that their past doesn’t have to be their future. God has a new life for those in need and their families.

We welcome anyone needing assistance with food or anything else to come down and see us: 

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9.30 – 12 noon

You will need to bring proof of address eg, power bill

If it is your first time with us please bring a letter from WINZ regarding your entitlements.

If we are unavailable you can also contact the Porirua Salvation Army foodbank on 04 235 6266. They are open: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am - 1pm

DONATIONS 

When you donate money or food to the foodbank you’re helping to provide one of life’s most basic necessities to those who need it most. Please contact us to arrange a donation, or feel free to drop it off to us at the church. You can also go online to the Foodbank Project, and make a one-off donation or set up regular donation there. Donations via the Foodbank Project are tax deductible.
